I just read the article in Self Magazine and did a search on Google, which led me right to your blog. I have to tell you, the story moved me to tears. INCREDIBLE! My now 6 month old son had emergency heart surgery 3 months ago due to heart failure and almost died. I have been feeling so down lately because it's just so hard. He's on so many medications and is not eating (he's my 3rd son which also makes it difficult because I have the other 2 to entertain!).

Your struggle and story was so inspiring. If you can get through what you all have gone through (my goodness!!!)... I can definitely get through this. I'm jealous of Carol's zest to live.

Just wanted to let you know that the article made a HUGE impact on my life. I thank you so much for sharing your story.

Thank you for a wonderful, uplifting article. I have sent it to many of my friends. It also makes a beautiful Christmas story or a great story for the beginning of a New Year. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas and many more blessings to you all in the year to come. Keep inspiring us all.

Hi Carol and Scott,

My name is Ashley Lee and I read your article in Self today. I felt the urge to contact you because I immediately related to your story. I am 24 years old now but contracted meningitis when I was 18 years old in college and nearly died of sepsis myself. I also lost both feet and wear two "bouncy feet" to get around :). I also lost 3 fingers on my right hand and have extensive scarring and skin grafts. You story is inspirational and I too have shared my story of survival and living after the disease (google my name and the word meningitis to see my story). I love that another woman is standing up and saying 'This is me. Take it or leave it." Hopefully Scott will let you know who I am and about my story as well. I feel that we have a lot to learn from each other. Have a great Holiday Season!

Carol and Scott-
My friend sent me the link to your Self article and I cried my way through it. I related on so many levels.
This past March while 33 weeks pregnant, I contracted a uterine infection(eColi)and my baby was delivered via c-section weighing 3.15. She was born with eColi and I became septic during delivery. We both received daily IV infusions. She did remarkably well, and after four months, I too joined the land of the living.
The journey to recovery was brutal- yet NOTHING in comparison to what you both went through. There's not a minute that goes by that I do not feel fortunate. The experience was life altering to say the least. I cannot imagine what you all have gone through- Carol, you are a miraculous human being. Scott, you sound much like my husband- you tended to Carol's needs, fathered your toddler (we had a 3 year old at home as well), did NICU duty, and managed to hold down a career. I salute you and commend you on being such an outstanding father, husband, and resilient person.
Thank you for sharing your story, for heightening awareness, and for being brave enough to persevere under conditions that to most, would seem insurmountable.

Give those precious girls big hugs and Happy Holidays.

Robin
P.S- Carol, your hair and make-up look fabulous. :)

We read your article and admired your courage and could feel your pain, as my daughter Amaia had a similar experience.
In December my daughter Amaia wo is 35yrs.old, lost her baby,as well as 9 finger tips and both legs due to sepsis. She as in the hospital for 7 weeks and is still on dialysis. Everyday she is a littl bit better, but as you have experienced it is a slow process. I would like to ask if it would be possible, that she speak with you about this challenge and journey that she hs ahead of her. I would appreciate a contact of e'mail or phone if that is possible. My e'mail is clotina@netzero.net and phone is 503-648-7047. I thank you
and send you heart felt best wishes in your journey. Amaia's mom, Carmen

Carol,

I don't know you, or you me. I'm a new mom in Minnesota, and I read the article in Self tonight at a salon. When I had my baby, Ava, I developed HELLP syndrome, which complicated my delivery and left me quite vulnerable to my body momentarily. My experience was nothing at all like yours, and I put myself in your shoes and can't help but write to you to express my care and concern for what you've been through (and I know I only got a glimpse of it through the article published). I SO admire your courage and love and the love of your husband and daughters for you also. Now knowing the depth of my love for my daughter, I can only imagine the love that exists in your family. My heart goes out to you. It seems as though this could have happened to anyone. I'm so sorry it happened to you...it is so unfair. You must be so strong and brave to recover as you have. And on a very superficial note, you're very beautiful. ...thank you for inspiring me on many levels. I wish you so much peace and love and continued courage. Love, Kate Howard, St. Paul, MN
